How do I cite the Bible in APA

Although the APA manual is usually used by scientists, educators, and business professionals for their research and does not go into great detail about books which fall in the Humanities, these books are often cited in a paper for a variety of reasons and  for scriptures and other classical works the citation format is simple as follows:

The Bible is considered a major classical work and does not need a reference. Simply putting the version in parenthesis after the quote is sufficient. Look for classical works in the index of APA Manual. Chapter 6 section 18 (p. 179). For example:

1 Cor. 13:1 (Revised Standard Version)
